These pictures can give us a nightmare just by staring at them! Monstrous!

The oar fish rarely makes it to the surface of the ocean and is rarely seen by humans. The oar fish in the picture above was found dead off the coast of Australia. Now imagine swimming and seeing one of these floating by. Nope.

The male weevil’s are the ones with long necks and they use them to have neck fights with other males. Not okay, ow.

It’s a prehistoric shark with needle-like teeth. Unless you’re thousands of feet underwater, I wouldn’t worry about running (swimming?) into one of these. They stay very deep and are rarely seen (TG).

The crab in the picture above measured 10 feet from claw to claw. That means that it is big enough to STRADDLE A DANG CAR. Its nickname is also “Crabzilla.”

This creature thing was discovered 1,400 meters (like .8 miles) under water near the Great Barrier Reef. It is basically one big head.

This fish’s name is Fat Lady (rude, I know). She was Britain’s biggest freshwater fish and was caught over 200 times. She was over 30 years old when she passed away. She also weighed 60 pounds and would probably eat you.

Let’s pour one out for this one-eyed albino shark. It was apparently cut from a pregnant bull shark in the Gulf of California. Gone too soon but never forgotten because we got this pic.

The guy in this picture caught this giant catfish on his morning swim with two friends and HIS OWN BARE HANDS. He told China News, “When we were swimming, we suddenly saw a giant fish. We then swam close to the fish quietly and circled it in the center. I dashed forward to grab its head while the other two caught its body. The fish was quite forceful and struggled fiercely in the water.” : 0

You find this cute — I find this unsettling and problematic. Naked mole rats live in colonies underground mainly in sub-Saharan Africa. They are the size of a tea cup which is actually kind of cute. I’ll give you that.

The arapaima is one of the world’s biggest freshwater fish. This big-ass fish was found in the River Essequibo in Guyana. Arapaimas are protected so this big guy (or girl) was released after being caught and taking this (terrifying) photo.

This gharial was found in India. It’s about the size of a human man (6 feet) but unlike a man, it has a terrifying, spiny beak.

This 7-foot halibut was caught of the coast of Norway’s Lofoten Islands. It was too big to bring on boat so the fisherman jumped into the water to take a picture. And yes, this is the halibut WE EAT.

The lamprey is a fish that lives in the ocean but spawns in freshwater (like salmon). This lamprey was caught near Portland, Oregon. It may or may not suck your blood. Sweet dreams!
